Where has the time gone?

My goodness, time really does fly by when you're having fun and keeping busy– I can't believe it's been a month since my last post! I know I promised to blog often while I was in Brisbane, but honestly I was been hard pressed to find the time and space to sit down and write! But now that I'm back home, I feel like I should update you all on what I have been up to!

These past few weeks have seen a few twists and turns and ups and downs. I thought I would share a few of my photos with you all so you can get an idea of just how hectic this holiday has been. Hopefully this will make up for my lack of posting!

Be warned- I'm no photographer, sorry about the quality of some of the pictures!...

My first few days in Brisbane were grey, wet and cold– not quite what I expected from the supposed "sunny state" and not the best weather for exploring and sightseeing either! So instead, I spent a lot of time inside watching Friends reruns on TV and basically being really, really boring. But to be honest, I wasn't that disappointed because I was exhausted from my early morning flight over and needed all the extra sleep I could get!

Eventually, the weather cleared up and I was able to have a good look around Hamilton– the suburb of Brisbane that I'm staying in. I am still amazed that on a nice winters day in Brisbane, you can walk around comfortably in a light summer dress and cardi!

Ready to explore!

Being right by the ports means that we get ships of all shapes, sizes and types arriving right at our front door. This one was particularly interesting. Named the Esmeralda, this sailing ship is owned by the Chilean Navy and used for training.

Just as I was starting to get a feel for the place, I had to head home again due to the passing of my Nana. It was a bit of a strange interlude to my holiday, I certainly didn't expect to be back in chilly NZ so soon, but I was happy to be back for the funeral.

Now, this is where it gets a bit hectic: Our flight back to Brisbane was scheduled to take off at 7.15 a.m., however due to maintenance, was delayed till 12.00 p.m.. Then, due to the stubborn NZ fog, was delayed AGAIN until 9.00 p.m.!
Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, we got word that our flight was CANCELLED! The airline had (kindly?) organised for us to bus up to Auckland, stay in a hotel, leave from Auckland Airport at 8.00 a.m. to Sydney AND THEN catch a connecting flight to Brisbane

Argh! I'm exhausted just thinking about it, but we did it! If you want to read more about this crazy experience check out my brother's girlfriend's blog, Dreamweavers. She had her camera on her the whole time and was documenting every exhausting detail of our journey to Brisbane...

Anyway I made it back and, after recovering from all the flying, was ready to continue exploring Brisbane...

And what better way to explore a city then to go right to the heart of it– the city centre!

I thought Pukekos were only in NZ!?

So pretty!

The Southbank Markets are so great (as I mentioned in a previous post), so they were a definite must-see!

There were so many pretty clothes! (source: dreamweavers)

The best coin purses EVER! So many cool shapes and designs! (source: dreamweavers)

There were so many eclectic stands... (source: dreamweavers)

... as well as eclectic personalities! (source: dreamweavers)

So, thats about all the pictures I have! I had such a great time in Brisbane! I hope to go back as soon as I can and hopefully, when I do, I will be a bit more diligent with my blogging!

Rachel xoxo
