I'm not too familiar with Ryan Adams but I am assuming he is a genius because truer words have never been spoken.
I'm often over enthusiastic about things: movies, music, pictures... cats ;p. In fact, my nickname in school was "happy girl" because of my excitable tendencies. However these days, in the grown-up world, jumping up and down (and occasionally singing) about having mac and cheese for dinner isn't looked upon too kindly.
It's taken me a while but I'm finally comfortable with saying "screw it" to those so called "grown ups". Life is too short to be boring. Get excited about life. It's waaaaaay more fun that way :).
